1926年に、行啓記念北海道庁立図書館として竣工した建物。
その後、北海道立美術館、北海道立三岸好太郎美術館（現在は北2条西15丁目）、北海道立文書館別館として親しまれ、北菓楼札幌本館として生まれ変わったのは、2016年3月のこと。
安藤忠雄氏によるリノベーション。テーマは「サロン」
北菓楼札幌本館となって随分経ちますが、未だ訪れずだったので行ってきました。
建築についての専門的なことは詳しくはないですが、重厚な石の階段（大理石？）や、非常に高い天井の吹き抜けに天空回廊のように架けられたカフェスペース、そして、北菓楼本館の象徴と言うべき天井まで伸びる本棚など、一言でいうと「ステキですね」と思いました。
ちなみに安藤忠雄氏は、札幌の真駒内霊園の頭大仏も手掛けており、そこに併設されているロダンカフェも安藤忠雄氏の設計です。
どちらが好きか問題で言えばボクはロダンカフェの方が好きですｗ
何にしましても、「けんちくとカフェ kanna」「e.den」など、建築家の思想に委ねられたカフェは、飲食のカフェという意味を超えて、アートとしてステキなカフェになる確率が高いですね。
商業的には非効率なカフェになることが多いと思いますが、カフェそのもののアート性を楽しめるのがいい所です。

I don’t know much about architecture, but there are the heavy stone stairs (marble?), the cafe space with a very high ceiling that looks like a sky corridor, and the symbol of Kitakaro Main Building. In a nutshell, I thought, “It’s wonderful,” such as a bookshelf that extends to the ceiling.
By the way, Mr. Tadao Ando also worked on the Great Buddha at Makomanai Cemetery in Sapporo, and the Rodin Cafe attached to it was also designed by Mr. Tadao Ando.
As for which one I prefer, I prefer Rodin Cafe lol
After all, cafes such as “Kenchikuto Cafe kanna” and “e.den” that are entrusted to the architect’s ideas have a high probability of becoming wonderful cafes as art beyond the meaning of cafes for eating and drinking. hey.
I think it’s often a commercial inefficient cafe, but it’s a good place to enjoy the art of the cafe itself.
